Invention of different gadgets has made our life easier and internet makes the world seem so smaller. Now, everything is available within our reach. But still there are some situations, where we fail to do some things faster. For example: If an old person stays at home alone and if he/she has any illness, what should they do? How the concerned person can reach out to help from a distant location? How they can consult a doctor? Can our technologies help us in these situations?
Here comes the effect of “Internet Of Things”.
Internet of Things??
Connecting everyday things embedded with electronics, software and sensors to the internet and enabling them to collect and exchange data. IOT expands interdependency of humans to interact to things around us. IOT technology helps a user to control the devices over the network.
Is it really useful??
Look at the effect of IOT with an example:
Consider a patient with a health monitoring system, who is all alone at home. If any emergency situation occurs, the information gets passed to the hospital, as the system of cloud is connected to a hospital. The doctors will be able to monitor the health status of the patient and it enables them to dispatch an ambulance immediately to the patient’s house and to bring him to the hospital. When the patient reaches the hospital, the prescriptions, medications and operation theatre would be ready. Here IOT helps to reduce a lot of time and brings a lot of transparency.
How should we develop??
There are four components for iOT system.
1.Sensors/Devices
2.Connectivity
3.Data processing
4.User Interface
Sensors/Devices collects data from the environment (Eg: temperature). This data is sent to the cloud via internet, cellular, satellite, bluetooth etc. The data which enters the cloud needs to be processed by the software. Then the information will be passed to the user as an alert, sms, emails etc in an application. Following diagram and architecture will help you to understand more.
